This year we will be doing a “Freedom Tour” to celebrate Memorial Day.  We will be leaving Rock Hill, SC from the Kmart parking lot at 0700 May 26th and will be escorted by the Rock Hill, South Carolina Chapter of Rolling Thunder as well as the American Legion Riders from Post 34 to the Washington, DC area.  On Saturday the 28th  from 11:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. we will be setting up at the Cold War museum in Vint Hill, VA which was a top secret base for the Army during the Cold War.

On Sunday the 29th we will travel with our escort as far as the Pentagon where we will leave them as they form up for the 28th annual POW/MIA demonstration Run to the Wall around the mall in Washington.   We will continue on our way to set up on Henry Bacon Drive between Memorial Bridge and Constitution Avenue and right by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall for the passing of the thousands of motorcycle that participate.

We encourage anyone who lives or will be in the DC area to join us as we support our brother and sister veterans on what can become a very emotional day.  With apologies to Lee Greenwood, these several hours very much makes a person proud to be an American.

On Monday, May 30, we will be at the U S Navy Memorial at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue from 1100 to 1600.  Come out and support your traveling museum and the thousands of Veterans that will be in the area that weekend. On Wednesday, June 1  our travels will take us to the Nauticus Museum in Norfolk, VA, the home of the USS Wisconsin BB 64 where we will be open from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. for tours. Leaving Rock Hill, SC

May 26th was the first day of this year’s Memorial Day freedom tour. After a not so restful night, we mustered in the Rock Hill, SC Kmart parking lot at 0600 with the local Rolling Thunder chapter and departed at 0700. After several stops and a nutritious lunch (?), we left our escort and headed for Vint Hill, VA to drop the trailer in preparation for Saturday’s open house. After a quick pit stop at the local brewery to rehydrate, we went into Leesburg for a quick dinner with Manny’s youngest son. Got to the hotel around 9 PM, checked in and called it a day. Friday is an open day so will spend it exploring the area and maybe doing a drive by of our Sunday and Monday sites. Happy Memorial Day everyone!
